This category is the start of documenting the history of the schools in Fair Haven and Sterling.
Today there are no schools within Fair Haven or the Town of Sterling. Students are bussed to Red Creek or Hannibal. Prior to school “centralization” in the 1940s, students walked to the one-room school house nearest them. Several of these old schoolhouses are still standing. If you can contribute information about any of these, let us know.

Fair Haven School first opened its doors in September of 1899. This combined the 1 through 8 school on Church Street with the Union Free School for grades 9 to 12 that had met in the Central Hall building. After centralization in the 1940s, this remained as an elementary school until the building was demolished in the 1980s.
